Amelia White Park AAG Acceptance

On September 16, 2024, The Amelia White Park was accepted into the Smithsonian Archive of American Gardens (AAG), as part of the permanent collection.
For over 30 years, the GCA’s Garden History & Design Committee has partnered with the AAG to preserve the visual record and collective narratives of gardens; providing scholars, researchers, and interested persons with visual documentation of cultural, historic, and vernacular gardens.

Harry & Amanda Werksman worked for more than three months with Liz Gilfillans – the GCA Zone XII Garden History & Design representative – to collect and shoot high-definition photographs of the park, do further historical research about the Park and Amelia White and go through the lengthy and detailed application process to satisfy the requirements of the Smithsonian.

The Amelia White Park is the first successful application by the SFGC to the AAG.

The SFGC sponsored film The Amelia White Park Project: Restoration & Transformation – which documents the significant role of Amelia White in the history of 20th century Santa Fe, her lasting contributions to the community and the stamp of her legacy throughout Santa Fe – can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8UoodKMD-g.

The AAG collection is searchable through the Smithsonian Online Virtual Archive (SOVA).
